PLAYTRONICA

Turn everyday objects into music.

A piece of fruit. A metal spoon. Your next instrument.

Playtron connects conductive objects to sound. Clip them in, hold Ground, and touch to play. This online sampler gives each touch a sound and a moving shape.

Start with what you have

Use your computer keyboard or tap the screen. A Playtron is optional for trying the sounds.

For objects, connect Playtron by USB and use a browser with MIDI support. On iPhone or iPad, the player offers guidance for MIDIWeb Browser. Browser permission or a first click may be needed.

Connect. Hold. Touch.

  1. Connect Playtron using a USB data cable.
  2. Use an alligator clip to connect a numbered contact to a conductive object.
  3. Attach another clip to Ground. Hold its exposed metal jaw with your bare hand.
  4. Keep holding Ground and touch the object with your other hand.

Both Ground corners connect to the same circuit. Touching an object without holding Ground often produces no sound. Playing directly on the board is a quick check; clipped objects are the instrument.

Find your sound

Explore percussion, melodic instruments, loops and unusual textures. Sounds are arranged in four families of four. Choose a pack, play, and watch it move.

Delay, reverb and tone add expression. The square Stop control clears the sound. Share a pack link to invite someone else to play the same sounds.

Take it further

Play with objects alone, together, or in a performance. The player needs no account to start.
